PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the life of Maharana Pratap teaches us that no matter how difficult the circumstances are, one should never compromise on the principles in order to protect our nation, culture and self-respect. The CM was addressing a programme organised to mark the anniversary of the Maharan Pratap at Nanakmatta on Saturday. He said that Maharana Pratap was not only the ruler of Mewar but also an immortal symbol of India’s honour and self-respect. His life is an inspiring saga of sacrifice, struggle, courage and patriotism, which even today fills every Indian with enthusiasm and pride, the CM said.  In the programme the CM described the Tharu community’s traditions, folk songs, folk dances and lifestyle as Uttarakhand’s invaluable cultural heritage. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister  Narendra Modi, many historic steps have been taken for the honour, self-respect and overall development of tribal society.  The CM said that with the help of Eklavya Model Residential Schools, the Van Dhan Yojana, the Tribal Development Mission and others, efforts are being made to connect tribal communities with the national mainstream.  Dhami averred that the State government is also continuously working for the development of tribal communities. He said under the Atal Awas Yojana, the income limit has been made practical and housing construction assistance has been increased. In Udham Singh Nagar,  an assistance of more than Rs three crore has been provided under this scheme. The CM said that self-employment is being promoted through the Livelihood Mission and Van Dhan Kendras to economically empower tribal women. Women have been provided with a revolving fund of over Rs one crore and investment support of over Rs eight crore. A corpus of Rs one crore has also been set up for the Tribal Research Institute. Dhami added that the State government is committed to preserving the culture, traditions and identity of tribal communities. Before the programme, the CM also offered prayers at historic Nankana Sahib Gurudwara. Rudrapur MLA  Shiv Arora and others attended the programme.
