The Nelang Valley of Gangotri National Park, bordering China, will remain open to tourists 12 months a year. Standard operating procedures have been developed to promote tourism, following government instructions. Under these guidelines, tourist activities will be conducted safely and regulatedly in the Nelang Valley during winter this year. This valley, which was previously open for a limited period, will offer tourists a glimpse of its snowy and breathtaking beauty even during winter.
The gates of Gangotri National Park remain open from April 1st to November 30th. After this, tourist entry to the Gangotri Gomukh Trek, Kedar Tal Gatarangli, and Nelang Valley areas within the park is restricted. To promote winter tourism in the state, the government has decided to keep the 23 km stretch from Bhauronghati to Nelang and the 7 km stretch from Nelang to Naga in the Nelang Valley open from December to March. The Forest Department has prepared a dedicated tourist protocol for this purpose.
The Nelang Valley, with its Ladakh-like geography, is also known as “Little Ladakh.” The park’s revenue will increase with the increased tourist footfall even during winter. Tourists from India and abroad will also be able to admire the beauty of nature.
Adventure opportunities will also be available in winter
The Nelang Valley is located near the China border. It is known for its untouched natural beauty, snow-capped peaks, and tranquil atmosphere. Previously, it was closed during winter due to snowfall and difficult conditions. Now, under the new SOP, it has been decided to open it year-round, keeping safety and facilities in mind.
Special Attention to Safety and Rules
The SOP prepared by the park administration prioritizes tourist safety, environmental protection, and border sensitivity. Tourists will be allowed to enter the valley only under established rules. A maximum of 100 tourists and 20 vehicles will be allowed daily. Tourists will be allowed entry between 8 am and 11 am daily. They must exit the park area by 5 pm.
