PIONEER EGDE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun Police forces from northern states joined hands to strengthen cooperation in combating drug trafficking, cybercrime, disaster management and the use of modern technologies in policing during the 12th meeting of the Northern Region Police Coordination Committee (NRPCC) held at the Uttarakhand Police Headquarters in Dehradun on Thursday. The meeting, chaired by Uttarakhand director general of police Deepam Seth, aimed to enhance collaboration among northern states and union territories, address emerging challenges and improve coordination on key law enforcement issues. Seth said that the NRPCC was established in 2015 during the DGP/IGP conference in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to promote regional cooperation in policing. The committee includes police chiefs of Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and Delhi. The previous meeting was held in Shimla in October 2024. The members discussed issues related to drug trafficking, online radicalisation, cyber threats and police preparedness for natural disasters such as flash floods and heavy rainfall that have recently affected northern India. The discussions also covered railway security in view of the upcoming Mahakumbh 2027 in Uttarakhand, Indo-Nepal border management and improving the functioning of tourist police units. The DGP said that the deliberations and suggestions from the meeting will help build stronger coordination and a more secure framework across northern India. He informed that senior officers from various states made presentations on subjects including cybercrime strategies, railway infrastructure security, disinformation on social media, effective enforcement against drug trafficking, disaster preparedness, new criminal laws and Indo-Nepal border management. From Uttarakhand, superintendent of police (Security) Manjunath TC presented a presentation on India–Nepal border management. He outlined the challenges of human and drug trafficking, illegal trade and cross-border crime and proposed strategies to strengthen surveillance, use technology and encourage community participation in border areas. The meeting concluded with additional director general (Intelligence and Security) AP Anshuman thanking all participants and emphasising that such coordination platforms strengthen inter-state police cooperation and contribute to the nation’s internal security.
