CM directs steps for improvement & review to prevent repeat of incident PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Haridwar/Dehradun Prime Minister Narendra Modi, governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep grief at the loss of lives in the stampede near Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar on Sunday morning. The stampede left six dead and 28 injured, five of them sustaining serious injuries. In a post of X, the PM said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede on the route to Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is assisting those affected.” Soon after the stampede, the CM ordered a magisterial probe into the incident and also announced Rs two lakh for the next of kin of those who died and Rs 50,000 each for the injured. Dhami directed the Haridwar district magistrate to ensure that all the victims and their families are provided immediate relief and assistance. He also directed the Disaster Management and Resettlement secretary Vinod Kumar Suman that a detailed review should be undertaken of crowd management, security arrangements and facilities on the pilgrimage routes to ensure that such an incident is not repeated. The CM also directed that steps should be taken to further strengthen crowd control planning, CCTV monitoring, signboards, emergency exit plans for bridle paths and local administration coordination at Mansa Devi and all major religious sites in the State. Dhami also visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh and the district hospital in Haridwar to check on the injured undergoing treatment. Suman informed that those injured in the stampede were provided medical treatment without delay with five seriously injured persons being referred to AIIMS Rishikesh while the remaining 23 injured are being treated at the district hospital. The CM is monitoring the situation and is being provided regular updates about the situation, he said. Soon after the incident, Suman reached the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) to monitor the situation, directing the departments and agencies concerned to expedite the rescue and relief efforts.  Suman also appealed to the public to not heed rumours and to trust only the information released by the authorities. The safety of the pilgrims is the top priority of the government for which all necessary steps are being taken. There will be no laxity in the relief works, he added.
