Police seize 25 litres of illicit liquor in Badrinath under Op Prahar

Chamoli, 4 Aug: Disrespecting the sanctity of the shrine has proven to be costly for some youths as Badrinath police, under Operation ‘Prahar’, have arrested one person with 25 litres of illicit country liquor and three others for indecent behaviour in the temple premises.
The police said that the undergoing Operation Prahar is aimed at maintaining law and order and preserving the sanctity of Badrinath Dham during the Char Dham Yatra. During checking of suspicious persons and vehicles in the shrine area, a team intercepted a man on the footpath leading to Bhrigudhara cave and recovered 25 litres of illicit liquor. He was identified as Surendra Singh, 75, resident of Bhrigudhara village under Badrinath police station. The liquor was seized and a case was registered against him under Section 60 of the Excise Act at Badrinath police station, with further legal action initiated.
It may be reminded here that consumption of liquor and meat is strictly prohibited in Badrinath town due to its sanctity.
Meanwhile, in another incident, three youths from Punjab were found indulging in indecent and objectionable acts near the temple premises. Considering the sentiments of devotees and the dignity of the shrine, the police immediately took them to the police station and initiated challan proceedings under the Police Act. The police have issued a stern warning that anyone attempting to undermine the sanctity of the shrine would face strict action.
