Much awaited relief from the scorching heat currently gripping the state is expected soon. According to the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, the coming days are likely to bring rain, thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and strong gusty winds to various districts across the state.
An ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for the districts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh for May 28. These regions face a likelihood of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds gusting at speeds ranging from 40–50 km/h, potentially reaching up to 60 km/h.
Similarly, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for May 29 for the districts of Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, anticipating thunderstorms with lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 40–50 km/h, potentially escalating to 60 km/h. Additionally, the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall has also been indicated for the districts of Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli.
Avoid Unnecessary Travel During Inclement Weather
Furthermore, a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for May 30 and 31. The State Emergency Operation Centre has directed the concerned districts to remain vigilant and ensure that necessary precautionary measures are in place. Orders have been issued to maintain special surveillance in vulnerable areas, keep departments involved in disaster management on high alert, and keep all necessary resources ready for immediate response.
