
21st Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament concludes

Nainital, 24 May: The three-day “Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament–2026”, organised by the Lok Bhavan Golf Club, Nainital from 22 May concluded on Sunday. A total of 179 golfers from nine states across the country participated in the tournament. During the prize distribution ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, Nainital, the Governor and Chairman of Lok Bhavan Golf Club, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), felicitated the winners and runners-up of various categories.
Samarth Jain was declared the Overall Winner/Champion of the 21st Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament. Ashish Jain secured the Runner-up position. Nusrat Abbasi won the Best Net category, while Anshul Chhabra was the Runner-up.

In the Super Veteran Gross category, Colonel SC Gupta emerged as the winner and SK Suri as Runner-up. In the Women’s category, Dr Srishti Dhaun was declared the winner, while Aarohi Atri finished as Runner-up. In the Veteran Gross category, Zafar Iqbal won the title and Colonel Manoj K. Sah secured the Runner-up position.
Master Vijitendriya Singh Tomar was awarded the title of “Most Promising Golfer”. In the Junior category (15–17 years), Aaliya Sisodiya was the winner and Krishnam Vinayak the Runner-up. In the 12–14 years category, Zoheb Abbasi secured first place while Medhansh Singh Bisht finished second. In the under-12 category, Arihant Joshi emerged victorious and Ridit Naithani was declared Runner-up.

Expressing happiness over the successful completion of the event, the Governor said that the 21st Governor’s Golf Cup had set a new benchmark in itself. He remarked that the event symbolised the participants’ passion, sportsmanship, and collective celebration.
He stated that the three-day tournament conveyed a positive social message like one big family, where participants ranging from a seven-year-old child to senior players aged 81 years played together. Appreciating the outstanding performance, skill, and dedication shown by children, women, and daughters, he said that their participation was inspiring for the future. The presence of participants from nine states strongly reflected India’s spirit of “Unity in Diversity”.

The Governor further said that the Lok Bhavan Golf Course, operational since 1926 and spread over 42 acres of serene natural forest area, represents a remarkable blend of nature and sports. He added that the rich biodiversity of the campus, home to numerous bird species and wildlife, made it seem as though nature itself had become a part of the tournament.
He noted that the three days provided participants an opportunity for self-reflection, mindfulness, connection with nature, and self-improvement. He urged the participants to warmly promote their experience and the unique features of the Lok Bhavan Golf Course so that more people could connect with this distinctive combination of sports, nature, and discipline.
The Governor congratulated all the players, organisers, sponsors, spectators, and especially the Lok Bhavan Golf Club, Nainital, and the local administration for the successful conduct of the tournament.
Among those present during the prize distribution ceremony were First Lady Gurmeet Kaur, Director General of Police Deepam Seth, Secretary to the Governor and Vice Chairman of Lok Bhavan Golf Club Ravinath Raman, Additional Secretary to the Governor and Vice Chairperson of Lok Bhavan Golf Club Reena Joshi, OSD to the Governor and Secretary of Lok Bhavan Golf Club Amit Srivastava, OSD to the Governor and Member of Lok Bhavan Golf Club Sumit Kumar Shadija, Golf Captain Colonel Vivek Bhatt, Financial Controller to the Governor Dr. Tripti Srivastava, member Dr Sachchidanand Chamoli, Ved Prakash Muhar, GM IOCL SA Nimkar, and several other dignitaries.
