Traders in Mussoorie troubled by Gas Cylinder shortage

my uttarakhand news Bureau
Mussoorie, 13 Mar: Traders and locals in the tourist hub of Mussoorie are currently distressed due to a severe shortage of both domestic and commercial gas cylinders. The unavailability of gas cylinders on time has pushed many hotels, restaurants, and food-related establishments to the brink of having to shut down their kitchens. Traders warn that if an adequate supply of gas is not ensured soon, it will have a direct adverse impact on Mussoorie’s tourism sector and local businesses. On Friday, traders and local residents of Mussoorie submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand regarding this grave issue, forwarding it through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Mussoorie. The memorandum highlights that, for some time now, the supply of domestic and commercial gas cylinders in the Mussoorie region has been irregular. Consequently, traders—both small and large—as well as hotel owners and restaurant operators are facing a severe crisis. The traders emphasise that Mussoorie is a city entirely dependent on tourism, attracting a large influx of visitors daily. Given this context, maintaining food services in hotels and restaurants is absolutely essential; however, the scarcity of gas cylinders is disrupting kitchen operations across numerous establishments. This situation could also result in inconvenience for tourists. The traders further alleged that while the Central and State governments claim there is no shortage of domestic and commercial gas cylinders, people in a major tourist destination like Mussoorie are, in reality, unable to procure gas on time. This is negatively impacting both commercial activities and the daily lives of the general public. The memorandum also notes that certain individuals are engaging in the black marketing of domestic gas cylinders, thereby exacerbating the already critical situation. The traders have demanded that the administration investigate this matter, take strict action against the culprits, and ensure that the gas cylinder supply mechanism is made transparent and streamlined. Traders and local residents have requested the Chief Minister to issue necessary directives to the concerned departments to ensure an adequate supply of domestic and commercial gas cylinders in the Mussoorie region, so that the difficulties currently being faced by traders and common citizens may be resolved expeditiously. Several traders and locals—including Sunil Sonkar, Suresh Goyal, Mohammad Ayan (Anjum), Shanu Verma, and Rajendra Godiyal—were present on this occasion. The traders warned that if the issue is not resolved soon, they would be compelled to launch a protest movement.
