Teachers honoured, students awarded scholarships at Gyan Ganga event

Dehradun, 8 Sep: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today participated in the ‘Gyan Ganga Samman Samaroh and Scholarship Distribution Programme’ organised by Kusum Kanta Foundation and Manthan Welfare Association at the auditorium hall at the CM’s Camp Office.
On the occasion, the CM also honoured the teachers and presented scholarships to meritorious students and extended congratulations and best wishes for their bright future.
Addressing the gathering, the CM observed that this ceremony is not merely about honouring teachers and distributing scholarships but is a commendable effort to recognise talent, encourage education and give wings to children’s dreams. Supporting a child’s education, he added, is not just financial assistance but participation in fulfilling their aspirations.
Paying tribute to the late Kusum Kanta (wife of former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’), Dhami said her dedication to music, literature and education was inspiring. He noted that the Kusum Kanta Foundation has, for the past six years, been working commendably in education, women’s empowerment, skill development, digital literacy and environmental protection. He also appreciated the work of Manthan Welfare Association in education, health, women’s empowerment, skill development, social awareness and public welfare. Stressing on the importance of teachers in Indian culture, he said a teacher does not merely impart bookish knowledge but provides vision, confidence and values, inspiring students to move forward. He urged teachers to impart quality education along with values that make children good human beings and responsible citizens.
The CM asserted that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the National Education Policy has taken significant steps to make the country’s education system modern, practical and qualitative. Uttarakhand has been among the leading states in implementing the policy. The state government, he added, is focusing on improving the quality of education and ensuring transparency and fairness in teacher recruitment. He called upon parents to provide not only facilities but also time, values, discipline and positive guidance to their children. He urged students to dream big and pursue their goals with hard work, discipline and determination, learning from failures and moving steadily towards success. He said the government stands with the students at every step to provide opportunities and support to them. He reminded the students that whether they become teachers, scientists, doctors, engineers, sportspersons, entrepreneurs or administrators, they should first be good human beings and responsible citizens. He expressed confidence that the students of Uttarakhand, with their knowledge, talent, hard work and values, will make significant contributions to the state and the nation.
Former Chief Minister and former Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ fondly remembered his late wife Kusum Kanta, highlighting her deep interest in education, literature, music and social service. As a teacher, he said, she always valued education and values. He added that continuing her life principles and spirit of service through educational and social initiatives is the true tribute to her. He said education is not merely a means of acquiring knowledge but the foundation of personality development and nation-building. He also extended best wishes to scholarship recipients, urging them to use their knowledge and talent for the benefit of society and the nation, and praised the efforts of Kusum Kanta Foundation and Manthan Welfare Association.
Among those present on the occasion were Cabinet Minister Khajan Das, MLA Savita Kapoor, Prof Sudharani Pandey, Kusum Kanta Foundation founder Vidushi Nishank, Aryan Dev Uniyal and other dignitaries.
