Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has revised the ‘Time-of-Day’ schedule for consumers equipped with smart meters. Under this new framework, consumers will now be able to access electricity at lower rates during the ‘Solar Time’ slot—specifically from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Furthermore, specific time slots have been designated for both ‘Peak Time’ and ‘Solar Time.’ Agencies will assess consumer electricity consumption based on data retrieved from the smart meters.
Subsequently, officials from the Electricity Department will verify this data and input it into the billing system to ensure the generation of accurate electricity bills.
This new system offers several benefits to consumers. By utilizing electricity at lower rates during the daytime, consumers can effectively reduce their monthly electricity bills. Additionally, consumers can exercise greater control over their expenses by scheduling their electricity usage according to their specific needs and preferences.
Further savings can be realized by avoiding electricity consumption during ‘Peak Time’ hours. According to M.R. Arya, Director (Operations) at UPCL, this system will be implemented in a phased manner to ensure that consumers receive accurate bills and to prevent any potential inconvenience.
Procure Affordable Electricity from Within the State
Until now, industrial units typically utilized the ‘Open Access’ mechanism to procure electricity at lower rates during the daytime. With UPCL having now implemented lower daytime tariffs, these units will be able to procure affordable electricity directly from within the state itself. This initiative is expected to lead to an increase in the state’s revenue.
