File Image Dehradun, September 11, 2026: The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Friday approved a series of important proposals concerning energy regulation, prison administration, legal services, ease of doing business, healthcare, education, sports employment and infrastructure. The Cabinet approved the following key decisions: UERC Annual Report to be Tabled in AssemblyThe Cabinet approved a proposal to table the 2024-25 Annual Report of the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) before the State Legislative Assembly during the upcoming session, in accordance with Section 105 of the Electricity Act, 2003. UERC Annual Accounts to be Presented in AssemblyThe Cabinet also approved the proposal to place the 2024-25 annual accounts of the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission before the Legislative Assembly, as required under Section 104(4) of the Electricity Act, 2003. Amendment to Prison Administration and Correctional Services RulesThe Cabinet gave its consent to the Uttarakhand Prison Administration and Correctional Services Department Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ Service Rules, 2026. The amendment will facilitate the inclusion of a newly created post of Additional Inspector General of Prisons in the cadre structure for the correctional wing under the Prisons Department. Increase in Fees for Government AdvocatesThe Cabinet approved the revision of fee rates for government advocates engaged before the Supreme Court, Uttarakhand High Court at Nainital and subordinate courts/offices in the state. The decision follows recommendations of a seven-member review committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary. Amendment to Legal Metrology RulesThe Cabinet approved the promulgation of the Uttarakhand Legal Metrology (Enforcement) (Amendment) Rules, 2026. The move is aimed at simplifying the licensing process for weights and measures in line with the Central Government’s Ease of Doing Business, Compliance Reduction and Trust-Based Regulatory Framework reforms. MBBS Intern Stipend Increased to ₹25,000 per MonthIn a major healthcare-related decision, the Cabinet approved an increase in the monthly stipend paid to MBBS interns in government medical colleges from ₹17,000 to a minimum of ₹25,000. Uttarakhand currently has five government medical colleges in Srinagar, Haldwani, Dehradun, Haridwar and Almora. The decision is aimed at strengthening healthcare services, particularly in remote and difficult-to-reach areas of the state. 33 New Posts Created for Assistant Physical Education TeachersThe Cabinet approved the creation of 33 posts of Additional Assistant Teacher (Physical Education), Level-6, under the Secondary Education Department. These posts will be created by surrendering 33 posts from the existing 1,898 Level-7 Assistant Teacher (Physical Education) posts. The move will facilitate out-of-turn employment for international and national gold medal-winning athletes under the provisions of the Sports Department. 243 Posts Approved for Out-of-Turn Sports AppointmentsUnder the Uttarakhand Sports Policy, 2021, the Cabinet approved appointments against a total of 243 posts across the Sports, Youth Welfare, Home, Transport, Education and Forest departments for medal-winning athletes at international and national competitions. The appointments will be made through the out-of-turn employment provision. Land Allocation for Dehradun–Mussoorie Ropeway ProjectThe Cabinet approved the leasing of 972 square metres of land in Mussoorie to Garhwal Sabha Mussoorie. The land, equivalent to the area previously leased to the organisation, will be taken from land purchased for parking by the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. The decision is linked to the construction of the upper terminal point and parking facilities for the proposed Dehradun (Purukul village)–Mussoorie (Library Chowk) ropeway project. 15 Acres Allocated for ESI Hospital Construction in HaridwarThe Cabinet decided to allocate 15 acres of identified land near the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Haridwar for construction and related development of ESI facilities. The decisions reflect the state government’s focus on healthcare, employment opportunities for sportspersons, administrative reforms, legal services, regulatory simplification and infrastructure development across Uttarakhand.
