PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Uttarakhand government is committed to expanding sports facilities and resources in the State. He said this while attending the closing ceremony of the 37th Akhil Bharatiya Khelkood Samaroh-2026, organised by Vidya Bharati in Ghaziabad on Wednesday. On this occasion, the CM honoured the winning players who performed exceptionally well in various competitions and encouraged all participants. Addressing the athletes, he said that sports competitions not only hone students’ talents but also develop discipline, unity, cooperation and a sense of nationalism. He added that the participation of athletes from various states across the country makes this event special. Both victory and defeat are important in sports, he said, adding that victory provides impetus to move forward while defeat inspires one to overcome shortcomings and perform better. Dhami said that Vidya Bharati is doing important work to strengthen education, values, discipline and the spirit of nation building. He said that Vidya Bharati’s efforts to spread education in border, rural, tribal and deprived areas are commendable. In Uttarakhand too, the organisation’s schools are making a significant contribution to the spread of education and values. He said that a disciplined routine of sports events also teaches students the importance of time management, self-reliance and collective responsibility. The CM said that Vidya Bharati is providing opportunities for talented athletes to advance through sports competitions from school level to provincial, regional and all-India levels. Citing the example of Nishad Kumar, silver medalist at Paris Paralympics 2024, he said that through determination, consistent practice and hard work, even greatest achievements can be attained. The CM said that efforts are being made to encourage sports talent in the State and provide players with better training and opportunities for advancement. The government is striving to ensure that talents from remote areas also get opportunities to showcase their abilities and youth of the State can build a better future in sports, he added.
