Two talented youths from Uttarakhand brought honor to the state by representing the country and winning silver medals at the 48th WorldSkills Competition 2026, held in Shanghai, China, from September 22 to 27, 2026. Sania Joshi from Uttarkashi won a silver medal in Retail Sales, while Parth Vohra from Dehradun secured a silver medal in Industrial Design Technology. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the Minister for Skill Development and Employment, Shri Saurabh Bahuguna, congratulated and extended their best wishes to both youths. They remarked that it is a matter of pride for the state that Uttarakhand’s youth have won medals while representing the country on such a prestigious global skill platform. This achievement will inspire other young people in the state to pursue skill development and strive for excellence. In this regard, Narendra Singh Bhandari, Project Director of the Uttarakhand Skill Development Society, stated that the WorldSkills Competition is considered a prestigious global platform in the field of skills, akin to the Olympics. Approximately 1,400 participants competed across 64 different skill categories in this event. India secured the 10th position globally by winning 8 silver medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence, marking the country’s best-ever performance in the competition. He noted that Sania Joshi and Parth Vohra earned their spots for WorldSkills after delivering outstanding performances in the state, regional, and national levels of the IndiaSkills competitions. The Department of Skill Development and Employment and the Uttarakhand Skill Development Society provided support regarding training, boot camps, travel, and other necessary arrangements. Additionally, the National Skill Development Corporation provided the necessary training and support to prepare them for the international stage.
