Uttarakhand, UP, Punjab and Goa to Start Census Process Ahead of 2027 Assembly Polls – my uttarakhand news

The census in the non-snowbound areas of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Goa will commence on December 1 and continue until January 4, 2027. Mritunjay Kumar Narayan, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, issued a notification announcing these details. Residents of these four states will also have the option to self-enumerate—entering their own data—between November 16 and November 30. Subsequently, a re-verification phase will take place from January 5 to January 9, 2027. According to the notification, the reference date for the census in Goa, UP, Punjab, and the non-snowbound areas of Uttarakhand will be midnight on January 5, 2027; the situation prevailing at this time will serve as the basis for the census data. For Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and the snowbound areas of Uttarakhand, the reference date has been set for midnight on October 1, 2026. Census Process Prioritized in Four States Last June, the government announced that the census reference date for the rest of the country would be in March 2027 (excluding Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and the snowbound areas of Uttarakhand). The legislative assembly terms in Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are set to expire by May 2027; consequently, the census process is being conducted earlier in these states.
