The development of basic amenities in 91 villages of Uttarakhand situated along the China-Nepal border is expected to boost tourist activity. Under the ‘Vibrant Village’ scheme, the state government has prioritized the implementation of projects—ranging from roads, electricity, and network connectivity to healthcare facilities and tourism promotion—in these villages. Uttarakhand shares a 658-kilometer stretch of international border, comprising 283 kilometers along the Nepal border and 375 kilometers along the China border. The ‘Vibrant Village’ scheme covers 91 villages across the districts of Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar. The scheme aims to enhance basic amenities in these villages to curb migration among the local population. The Central Government included 51 villages in the first phase of the scheme and has added another 40 villages in the second phase. The Rural Development Department has formulated a development plan for 40 villages located along the Nepal border in Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, and Pithoragarh districts, and has submitted a proposal worth ₹221 crore to the Centre. Plans for development works have been prepared by various departments, including the tourism sector.
