PIONEERESDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun The State government has suspended the Char Dham Yatra till September 5 considering the heavy rains and landslides being witnessed in the State and the inclement weather forecast for the next few days. The pilgrimage to Hemkund-Lokpal has also been suspended for now. The Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that heavy rains and landslide debris have resulted in roads being blocked in various places in the State. The State government is working to reopen the blocked roads as a priority. However, considering the safety and convenience of the travellers, the government has decided to suspend the Char Dham Yatra till September 5. The Hemkund-Lokpal Yatra will also remain suspended during this period. Pandey appealed to the pilgrims to not travel on the Yatra circuit now considering the inclement weather conditions. All travellers should observe the guidelines issued by the authorities, he stressed. The pilgrimage will be resumed once the weather conditions return to normal and the roads are considered safe for travel, the commissioner said. The State government and local administration have taken all necessary steps for monitoring roads and the safety of travellers. The people are requested to be patient and contact the official control room for the latest information on the Yatra, Pandey added.
