Assam, Nagaland Foundation Days celebrated at Lok Bhawan

Dehradun, 2 Dec: The Foundation Days of Assam and Nagaland were celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Lok Bhawan here on Tuesday. Students from Assam and Nagaland studying in Uttarakhand presented vibrant and diverse cultural performances. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) attended the programme and extended heartfelt greetings to everyone on the Foundation Days of both states.
It is worth noting that Assam celebrates its Foundation Day on 2 December, while Nagaland observes it on 1 December.
In his address, the Governor said that the tradition of celebrating the foundation days of various states strengthens social integration and cultural exchange. He shared that during his military service, he served in the Assam Regiment and had the opportunity to be posted in many regions of Assam and Nagaland. These postings allowed him to closely understand the local lifestyle, culture, and traditions.
The Governor stated that “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” is a celebration of India’s unity in diversity. Such events not only strengthen mutual relations but also offer an opportunity to appreciate the country’s rich and colourful cultural heritage. He said that fostering cultural connection, mutual understanding, and trust among states is extremely important—and this forms the true foundation of India’s strength.
He added that today’s occasion is a symbol of the deep national spirit of India, where diversity is our strength and culture is our identity. “On the Foundation Day of vibrant and culturally rich states like Assam and Nagaland, we celebrate not merely geographical units but the very soul of India, tied together by the invaluable thread of unity in diversity,” he emphasised.
The programme was attended by Secretary to the Governor Ravinath Raman, Additional Secretary Reena Joshi, Finance Controller Dr Tripti Srivastava, officers and staff of Lok Bhawan, and residents of Uttarakhand belonging to Assam—including Berlin Borah, Rishikesh Boruah, Banjit Sharma, Prantik Deka, Gargi Borah, Pallabi, Jubu Bordoloi, Jwisna Basumatari, Tanisha, Deepika, Nayan Jyoti Kalita—and from Nagaland, Lenuakum, Surji, Lulu, Tokapu, Hilika, Lunrisu, Shokum, Tuna, and others.
