PM to arrive on 28th State visit to Doon, Dhami to welcome him 18th time as CM PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Dehradun on his 28th visit to Uttarakhand on Tuesday. He is scheduled to inaugurate the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and the nation’s first 1,000 MW capacity variable speed pump storage plant in Tehri. This will also be the 18th time when chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will receive Modi in the State as the CM. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will cut down the travel time between Dehradun and Delhi to about 2.5 hours. The 213 kilometres long expressway was built at a cost of Rs 11,963 crore. It also includes various unique features like Asia’s longest 12-kilometre wildlife corridor along with two 200-metre long elephant underpasses and six animal underpasses. With a six-lane access controlled corridor, it also comprises 10 bridges. The variable speed pump storage plant in Tehri will be the first of its kind in the nation. With a 1,000 MW capacity, it has been built by the THDC India Limited as part of the Tehri hydro power complex. It will generate additional electricity between the upper and lower reservoirs of the Tehri hydro power project. According to officials, this plant is expected to be a milestone in the nation’s energy journey. It will be recalled that after being elected the PM in 2014, Modi had first visited Uttarakhand in his official capacity to meet his guru Swami Dayanand Saraswati in Rishikesh during September 2015. The PM has also shown a special affinity for Kedarnath and other major shrines in Uttarakhand, having visited Kedarnath five times in addition to visiting Badrinath and Mukhba. Modi has proved to be a brand ambassador for pilgrimage-tourism in the State. When the pilgrimage to Kedarnath was affected due to natural disasters, his visit to the Dham sent a message of a safe Yatra and resulted in an unprecedented rise in footfalls. Similarly, a considerable number of people are now visiting Adi Kailash in Pithoragarh district after the PM visited the site. Modi also visited Goddess Ganga’s winter seat at Mukhba in March last year which gave a boost to winter pilgrimage in the State. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that PM Modi has a deep connection with Uttarakhand. “The people of the State are enthusiastically looking forward to this visit. Various important projects in Uttarakhand were approved after Narendra Modi became the PM with development projects worth more than Rs two lakh crore having been executed so far. A revolution has been brought about in the sphere of connectivity after he granted approval to major projects like the all-weather road project, Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project, Kedarnath and Hemkund ropeway projects and the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project,” he said.
