Authorities verify over 2,000 people  PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun Following the Indian armed force’s Operation Sindoor in Pakistan, Dehradun police were on high alert on Wednesday. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that in response to the national security development, police teams, in coordination with paramilitary forces, launched a large-scale verification drive across both urban and rural areas of the district from early morning hours. During the operation, the teams verified the identities of over 2,000 individuals, focusing especially on outsiders residing within the district. The police took swift action against violations, issuing challans to 316 individuals under Section 83 of the Police Act and imposing fines totalling Rs 31.6 lakh for failure to conduct tenant verifications and related irregularities. Singh said that besides this, the police teams found 115 individuals suspicious during the verification process and brought them to police stations for questioning and further scrutiny. Another 135 individuals were penalised under Section 81 of the Police Act, resulting in fines amounting to Rs 33,750, he said. Singh said that the regular checkings have been carried out across the district, especially after the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The police are taking all necessary measures to ensure safety, security and maintain peace, law and order in Dehradun, he added.
