PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has asked the Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (UKBOCW) to provide skill training to youth of the mountainous areas of the State in the fields of plumbing, electrician, masonry and carpentry. He said that free training in Yoga and wellness should be provided to the children of workers in the upcoming session. The CM was addressing a programme organised at his residence on Friday in which a sum of Rs 17.25 crore was transferred to the bank accounts of 8,005 construction workers of the State. He also inaugurated the Shramik Seva mobile app developed by the UKBOCW on the occasion. The CM said that the Board should reach as many workers as possible. He said that, in order to maintain transparency in grant distribution, the system of offline disbursal has been stopped and funds are being transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ accounts through DBT. An amount of Rs 29.89 crore has so been distributed to 11,828 beneficiaries of the State. Dhami said that the Board should also make efforts to provide employment abroad to construction workers and their dependents after providing them training. “Attention should also be paid to linking workers to the PM Svanidhi Scheme and ensuring their periodic health check-ups. Arrangements should be made for medical examinations at the workers’ workplaces to ensure their employment is not disrupted,’’ he said. The Labour commissioner PC Dumka informed that till now 16,000 establishments have been registered through UKLCCMS Portal, through which a sum of Rs 80 lakh has been deposited as fee. Apart from this an amount of Rs 324 crore has been deposited with the Board till now in the form of cess which is being used for the welfare of the workers. He informed that online arrangements are being made to bring transparency in the distribution of material among the construction workers.
